Mandaluyong City suspends afternoon classes due to tropical storm

MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City on Tuesday announced the suspension of afternoon classes from preschool to senior high school in public and private schools after Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was raised over Metro Manila due to Tropical Storm Kristine.

In a public advisory issued by the Mandaluyong City Public Information Office, the class suspension was implemented in line with the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 37 released in 2022.

According to DepEd Order No. 37, classes must be automatically canceled in areas where tropical cyclone wind signals are hoisted by the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration raised TCWS No. 1 over Metro Manila on Tuesday morning as Tropical Storm Kristine approached Philippine landmass.

In its 11:00 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Tropical Storm Kristine was located some 335 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and a gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The tropical storm is moving west- northwest at 10 kph, the state weather bureau added.
